Virgilios Erbe

Was founded by the ambitious young winemaker Nick Hanel, who leased two vineyards in Iphofen at the end of 2020. With 0.33 hectares of Silvaner and 0.22 hectares of Müller Thurgau, both planted in 1972 on very steep slopes and certified organic, Nick has been responsible for their care ever since.

Nick's journey began in 2016 when he was working as a waiter and decided to pursue winemaking. He gained experience with natural wine pioneers 2Naturkinder and now works at Andi Weigand's winery. During the 2020 harvest, Nick met Dennis Horning and Philipp Schütt, who shared his passion for wine and life, and they became important members of the harvest crew.

The first time we met him was in 2022, where he stood proud next to his own small barrel. Now, the first vintage of Virgilios Erbe is bottled, and it's already special. The labels are all handmade; they spray-painted a large cloth with graffiti and cut each piece by hand into different shapes, making every bottle one-of-a-kind.

In summer 2024, Virgilios Erbe expanded into a family business run by these three soul brothers. Their philosophy is to let nature perform its art with minimal disturbance, avoiding filtration and additives in the cellar. Their approach is simple: nothing added, nothing taken away.
