Banyuls — France
Pedres Blanques was founded in 2017 by Japanese winemakers Rié and Hirofumi Shoji. The couple met while studying oenology in Beaune and gained experience in Burgundy—Rié with Frédéric Mugnier and Dominique Le Guen, and Hirofumi with Frédéric Cossard. They further honed their skills in Banyuls with Bruno Duchêne.
Seeking more affordable vineyards, they purchased 3.5 hectares of 50-year-old Grenache vines from a retiring vigneron in the hills above Collioure in Languedoc-Roussillon, overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. The domaine, named Pedres Blanques after the Catalan term for “white rocks,” reflects the unique granite terroir of their spectacular vineyards.
