Conterno Diego

Conterno Diego

The Conterno name is famous in Monforte d'Alba, with quite a few Barolo producers sharing it. Diego Conterno, originally part of Conterno-Fantino, struck out on his own in 2000, taking his prized Ginestra vineyard with him. His first vintage came in 2003, but winemaking runs deep in the family, going back to the post-WWII days of his ancestors Lorenzo and Attilio.

Now, Diego and his son Stefano, who joined in 2010, focus on making classic, earthy Barolo. Their Barolo Ginestra is a standout, but they also make a deliciously fresh, pineapple-scented Langhe Nascetta. With 7.5 hectares of vineyards, including the top-notch Ginestra plot, the family has been farming organically since 2010 and got certified in 2014.
