Mas Del Gaio 2018
This blend consists of 50% Perellada, 25% Garnacha Blanca, and 25% Macabeu. Located in Catalunya, Conca de Barberà is a small DO bordered by Penedés, Costers del Segre, and Tarragona, characterized by cold winters and hot summers moderated by cool sea winds. The grapes are sourced from vineyards near the winery, which feature clayey-calcareous soils. The viticulture is biodynamic, promoting biodiversity through the use of vegetation between rows and organic compost from a small farm with sheep and chickens. The soils are mulched to retain moisture in the dry climate. For winemaking, Garnacha Blanca and Macabeu are co-fermented, while Perellada is harvested 10 days later and fermented separately. The final blend is aged primarily in large amphorae and a small portion in old French oak, with no filtration, stabilization, or fining, and no additional sulfur added. This wine is suitable for vegans and vegetarians. Tasting notes reveal a fresh profile with stone fruit, lemon verbena, and peach skin, leading to a long, fleshy, and salty finish, complemented by fantastic acidity and viscosity from lees aging, alongside subtle tropical notes of passion fruit
