Malvasia de Sitges 2022
The decline of Malvasía de Sitges was narrowly avoided thanks to some forward-thinking winemakers, and today this grape variety is experiencing a renaissance. With only 125 hectares spread across 180 plots, mainly in Penedès but also other parts of Catalonia, these wines are now highly admired, even becoming trendy and sought after in fine restaurants. One winery dedicated to showcasing the unique character of this difficult-to-grow Mediterranean grape is LaRural, a family estate in Alt Camp (Tarragona), managed by the Padró family for five generations. Under the guidance of the latest generation, Xavi and Andreu Padró, the estate has returned to traditional winemaking practices that align with the natural wine movement, reflecting the essence of Malvasía de Sitges.
