Barolo DOCG Ginestra 2016
This Barolo DOCG is made from 100% Nebbiolo, sourced from the full-south-facing portion of the ‘Ginestra’ vineyard in Monforte d’Alba. The vineyard, with clay and limestone marl soils, sits at an altitude of 870 to 990 feet. The Conterno family has owned vines in this area for over 150 years, with the current vines averaging 35 years old.
The grapes are hand-harvested, destemmed, and fermented with indigenous yeasts in temperature-controlled steel tanks. The wine is aged for 24 months in large Stockinger oak casks (50HL), followed by six months in cement tanks and one year in the bottle.
It presents aromas of red and black cherries, bramble fruit, soy, and warm spices. Medium-bodied with savory, structured tannins, it pairs well with grilled sausage, slow-braised meats, and mushroom-based dishes.
