Penedes — Spain
Álvaro González Marcos
Alvaro’s passion for winemaking dates back to his childhood, when he gazed at vineyards from his window. After a successful career in IT, he left his job to follow his true calling: wine. He launched his winemaking journey with a small-bottle production, dedicated to wines from healthy grapes with respect for nature.
Situated near Barcelona, Penedès is Catalonia’s largest vine-growing region, characterized by a Mediterranean climate and proximity to the sea. Alvaro’s vineyards are cultivated biodynamically and harvested by hand. Where he works with varieties like: Malvasia de Sitges, Xarel.lo, Parellada, and Ull De Llebre,...
Alvaro’s cellar is housed in a historic Catalan ‘Masia,’ where wine has been produced for over 400 years. Implementing traditional methods, he uses only native yeast and avoids intervention in the winemaking process. Minimal sulfur is added, if at all, preserving the wine’s natural essence.
