La Familia 2020
These 800 Carmenet vines, planted between 1991 and 1998 in Barranco Oscuro (1,300m, schist and clay soils), are trellis-trained with double-cordon Royat formation. The vineyards are cultivated naturally, without herbicides or synthetic fertilizers. Manual harvest involves careful grape selection. Fermentation is spontaneous with native yeasts, followed by natural malolactic fermentation during barrel aging. No sulfur dioxide or additives are used, and the wine is lightly filtered, maintaining its natural character with potential sediments. It seems like pure elegance, but there's power, fruit density, great structure, and a lot of length. It’s one of those rare species that occasionally appears, and just a touch more would have sent it to heaven. (La Familia 2010. Juan Fernández-Cuesta in Guia de Vinos ABC 2015)
